On the level of shot composition, the space is developed as property of objects: a living room, presented through the interior decoration. The contrast to the natural space of the preceding scene is at the core of the staging.
The space that is created is characterized by a strict, almost geometric arrangement. It creates a regular, closed movement, staged as dance.
The extreme close up of the very first shot already establishes the form of the framing and the limited depth of field as characteristics of the creation of the space. When the swing jazz starts, the framed image segues into a camera movement. At the same time, the interior proves to be a constant of the spatial order introduced: With the quick left pan of the camera (following the male figure) the room can be put together as a series of vertical lines (doorposts, pillars) and squares (slightly out of focus picture frames, doors and cabinets can be seen through which the geometric forms are reproduced as decor). This geometric order is integrated into the shot as a graphic pattern at the end of the left pan, when two pillars divide the shot.
With the right pan that now begins, a specific form of movement is brought into this private space, clearly defined as such by the interior decoration: the two characters move in the rhythm of a slow foxtrot. The entire arrangement of the space is slowly set in motion by the movement of the dance
The spatial arrangement and the type of movement are thus in the greatest possible contrast to the military spaces and movements that have been shown until this moment.
